Dance, dance otherwise we are lost

Film maker Wim Wenders can safely say "that 3D and dance are made for each other".
This trailer of the film "Pina - Dance, dance, otherwise we are lost" shows that dance can now be seen on the big screen without loosing its most important element: space! The german choreographer Pina Bausch would be proud to see that works like hers will live forever. Once considered the most ephemeral of the art forms, dance existed only at the time of the performance, and would die with the choreographer. Now with the advances in technology dance will be immortalized! For someone like me, who was involved with dance, this is one of the greatest things that technology could have brought us... am I right dancer friends???
I present to you my new favorites

Beauty is everywhere

There are so many things that I like about my mom and sister's trips to San Diego. One of them is that I always end up with tons of pictures of flowers, and close up shots of nature's details, colors and textures. And they inspire me so much! My sister took these pictures of poppy flowers and poppy pods. I marvel at these images every time I look at them, and thought they were way too wonderful to omit... so that's what I decided to share with you today. Beauty is everywhere, just look around you!

Zucchini Risotto

All right! Here comes my second post about food!
It's being cold in California lately, so nothing better than staying home and cooking some yummy food...
I was craving risotto last week, so I grabbed the ingredients I already had in my fridge and prepared this dish. Below is the list of the ingredients i used:
Arborio rice, low sodium vegetable stock, zucchinni, kalamata olives, sugar plum tomatoes, basil, rosemary, salt and pepper, topped with fresh arugula and grated parmesan cheese!
Very easy and fast to prepare... you should try!
Buon appetito!

Knowledge is Power

In an effort to make a difference in this world, many people gathered last night at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising for Room to Read's 10th anniversary. Local designers were invited to create wearable art t-shirts with the theme "Literacy and Gender Equality". Designers had two things in common: a plain white t-shirt and a desire of helping kids in developing countries. For my creation I used ordinary materials like pencils and alphabet blocks to create an outfit that reminds us of the royalty. My idea was to make people realize how powerful women can be if they have the same opportunities as men. At the end t-shirts were auctioned off and 100% of the money goes to Room to Read's programs of education in 3rd world countries. Such an honor to be part of this great cause!

I'm in love!

I'm in love! Yeah... in love with my latest creation: the Gingko Cuff! For those who are familiar with my work, you know about my fascination with flowers and leaves. The gingko motif is one of my favorites and it has been very popular among the ladies. They all want the ginkgo earrings and rings. So I decided to add another style to the collection, and this time instead of silver I used nugold! I can always make a thiner version if you think you can't pull off the thick one... But I wore this last night for the Pecha Kucha event and it looked wonderful over a black sweater!

Coconut-herb Quinoa with sautéed Ginger Bok Choy and Sugar Plum Tomatoes

I have been debating on whether or not to post my culinary creations. So today, after making this dish and being amazed by all the different flavors that worked so well together, I decided to start sharing my chef qualities... hehehe! My goal in the kitchen is always to cook a quick, healthy meal! Here's how I prepared lunch:
Instead of water I cooked the quinoa in coconut milk with salt, ground cumin, laurel, oregano, basil, dill and rosemary.
Then I sautéed bok choy and sugar plum tomatoes with olive oil, salt, garlic and chopped ginger, and.... voila! Bon appetit!

An evening of serious entertainment.
Synergy Art Foundation Fundraiser

At House of the Future, where 3D movies were projected inside the pool, fire emerged from the hot tub and the bathroom had long haired plush walls, hundreds of people gathered for one cause: raise funds for Synergy Art Foundation.  The attire was "Over the top Lady Gaga, Anime or Artsy Cocktail", and some outfits did beat Lady Gaga's! While people listened to live music, watched performances and looked at site specific art and sculptures, I couldn't contain myself and took pictures of everything! Here are some of my fav shots:

 Exchanging Clothes

Realized this past week that I can survive with just half of my closet!
Like most women, I love the idea of a huge walk-in closet, full of clothes, shoes and lots and lots of space to just store stuff. I've been keeping clothes in my closet as if they were memories in my brain. That straw bag I bought on my trip to Bali, the sarong I wore at so many camping trips to the beaches in Brazil, that pair of jeans that my dad gave me for Christmas, those pants I got in London...
Last week my friends cooked dinner and we got together to exchange clothes we no longer "needed". My attempt to clean my closet was clearly a failure! I gave away only a bag of clothes and brought home a cute denim skirt, flat sandals, shorts, two tops and a dress. A couple o f days after that I really decided I was   gonna live with just half of my closet. Surprisingly, I'm still alive, and still have great memories of my trips and Christmas! And better than that, I was able to detach from material goods and bring new energy into my house. You should try it... I got a serotonin rush that can be compared to that shopping "feel good" sensation!

My smooth transition
into fall colors

Whoever told you black and brown don't go good together was wrong!
At ready-to-wear fall 2010 fashion shows we saw some great examples of how well they get along. I already started my smooth transition into fall colors even though we've been having a late summer. I chose a silky brown top, skinny black pants and brown snakeskin sandals to go on a meeting last week. I feel like I can wear this outfit again when the cold weather knocks on my door. I would just combine it with a camel coat and would be ready to go! And yes, StrangeBeautiful nail polish and Pacci Designs' Gingko leaf ring and necklace. From the top, left to right: Chanel, Carlos Miele, Burberry Prorsum and Elise Overland.

Dijon Mustard Nail Polish combined with Pacci's Gingko Ring
Decided to go on an adventure this week (nail "polishly" speaking)! I was at the mall and had just 5 extra minutes to look around, and since every second spent at Anthopologie is worth it, that was my destination. I was able to see the whole store quickly, and when I was almost leaving, this elegant double nail polish packaging calls my attention. A dijon mustard color combined with gray incites me, and in a second I'm convinced I have to grab it and go to the register. StrangeBeautiful is the company who makes these stunningly provocative but wearable hues. I was so excited to have a manicure done, but was too busy that day. The next day, this was the first thing I did in the morning. Put on my Gingko Leaf ring (cause we're inseparable!) and voilà! I kind of like this strange beauty!

Dries Van Noten
Fall 2010 rtw

Untitled
Mauricio Aurvalle
from Urban Expressionism
exhibit 2004

It seems like Dries Van Noten got inspired by the colors of Mauricio Aurvalle's painting for his 2010 Fall Collection. What a nice palette! My architect friend Mauricio is a natural born artist. His notion of aesthetic is unbelievable, not only in interior design and the beautiful houses he creates, but also in different mediums he uses to express himself. Watercolor, acrylic, you name it! I specially like his big canvases! Please keep them coming Mauricio!

Grand Stabile Rouge
Paris 1974

Woke up thinking about Calder, and how he has inspired my life and my work in so many ways. I was 7 years old when I saw "Grand Stabile Rouge", one of his "stabiles". But his "mobiles" were the ones that always caught my attention... perfect use of equilibrium creating sculptures made out of rods and weighted objects that balance each other and rotate with air. Later I learned he made jewelry, using mostly brass, copper and simple cold connections to create elaborate wearable art! I was so inspired when I went to his exhibit with my architect and photographer friend Camila Hoefel! I didn't need any more reasons to love Calder.... but he also did sets for Martha Graham, the mother of modern dance that also happens to be one of my idols =) Oh, Calder! Such a Genius!
